Yoga teacher Made Murni (E-RYT 500) went from an initial outright rejection of yoga, to 14 years of consistent and intense practice. Through yoga, Murni shares her personal journey, fears, spiritual beliefs and wisdom. Her practice caters to both beginners and advanced practitioners. A teacher at Yoga Barn since the center’s founding in 2007, she has been teaching daily and running international workshops as a lead teacher in several yoga teacher training faculties (YTT) for the past 8 years. A committed practitioner, Murni is also a passionate humanitarian. Along with the co-founders of The Yoga Barn and the BaliSpirit Festival, Murni plays an active role as a volunteer teacher for outreach and education programs targeting Balinese youth.
The most important aspect of a yoga practice is about self-acceptance, transformation and embracing freedom. The freedom to accept one’s body as it is, to respect and love it to the core. Freedom of movement, not only physical, but also and especially the ability to free oneself from self-limiting mental beliefs. It offers the freedom to change, to choose and to live according to our truth.
Personifying the “freedom to change,” Murni’s story transcends cultural expectations and traditional roles of women in Balinese society. Yoga created freedom in her body, in her outlook on life, in her job prospects, and in her ability to elevate herself as a teacher.
